AHRQ Safety Program for Telemedicine
About This Project
The AHRQ Safety Program for Telemedicine will work directly with healthcare providers to ensure the appropriate use of antibiotics when providing care through telemedicine. These efforts will be supported by evidence-based guidance and implementation strategies based in AHRQ’s Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program aimed at developing a culture of patient safety and improving communication and teamwork between providers, staff, and patients.
Participating practices will receive information about evidence-based patient safety practices, individualized expert coaching, and technical assistance from physician subject matter experts in the following areas:
- Understanding the science of safety and how it applies to antibiotic use.
- Improving teamwork and communication.
- Designing and implementing interventions to improve antibiotic use within a telemedicine setting.
Tools and resources used and lessons learned by participants in this 4-year project will be compiled into a toolkit, allowing other providers to improve antibiotic stewardship in telemedicine.
