This module describes how hand hygiene prevents the spread of pathogens, including those that are resistant to antibiotics, and reduces the risk of infections in healthcare settings. At the conclusion of this module, participants will be able to: 1. describe the role of hand hygiene in breaking the chain of infection; 2. identify appropriate hand hygiene methods, products, and indications; 3. incorporate hand hygiene practices into their infection prevention and control program; and 4. identify resources to educate residents and visitors about the importance of hand hygiene.
