Project Description: This research has four main aims:
- Analyze secondary data to determine which emergency department (ED) and hospital operational characteristics contribute to superior performance of the time-to-PCI [percutaneous coronary intervention] quality indicator and contribute to reduction in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) mortality.
- Assess quality management characteristics by conducting a Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis of ED treatment of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) at two hospitals.
- Develop and implement an ED-specific quality improvement methodology for the processes involved in ED treatment of STEMI.
- Develop an operational and quality management toolkit.
Career Goals: Dr. Khare is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Northwestern University. He received his MD from University of Missouri, Kansas City, and did a General Surgery Residency at Fairview Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Health System. This was followed by a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan. Dr. Khare went on to earn his MSCI in Health Services Research from Northwestern University. His long-term career goal is to become a national leader in ED quality and patient safety research.
