Network of Patient Safety Databases
Established under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005, the Network of Patient Safety Databases (NPSD) develops informational tools, including dashboards and chartbooks, to make the data available for meaningful, national learning purposes. It draws upon non-identifiable data received through the Patient Safety Organization Privacy Protection Center (PSOPPC) from Patient Safety Organizations and other data sources. The NPSD is administered by AHRQ.
NPSD data tools include:
- The NPSD Dashboards enable users to explore and visualize data elements collected through the Common Formats and examine associations between different elements over time.
- The NPSD Chartbooks provide an overview of the patient safety data captured in the NPSD dashboards and highlights patterns and trends in the data.
- AHRQ's National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report includes NPSD data on national changes in trends and patterns of healthcare errors, patient safety, quality, and disparities of care each year by condition, population groups, and by State through its State Snapshots.
- The NPSD Data Spotlights focus on various topics of interest from the NPSD data, such as patient safety concerns during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
