NPSD Data Spotlights
Below are the first three of an anticipated series of NPSD Data Spotlights to be published periodically. They will call attention to specific NPSD data and may include both quantitative and qualitative analyses. For example, future Data Spotlights may focus on data new to the NPSD Dashboards and Chartbooks and/or priority patient safety topics. They are intended to show the capabilities of the NPSD data and spark ideas for further research and analysis.
Patterns of Fall Interventions (PDF, 4.5 MB) outlines how the data mining method, Frequent Pattern Mining, has been applied to operationalize and provide additional insights compared to traditional summary statistical methods used for the NPSD data. It also highlights key findings on frequent fall interventions beyond those presented in the 2022 NPSD Fall Supplementary analyses.
Falls: Associated Factors and Clinical Outcomes (PDF, 4.5 MB) examines clinical outcomes and factors associated with falls by age and gender based on data that the NPSD received through the end of 2021. A related infographic is also available.
Patient Safety and COVID-19: A Qualitative Analysis of Concerns During the Public Health Emergency (PDF, 2.6 MB) presents findings from a review of 5,500 patient safety records submitted to the Patient Safety Organization Privacy Protection Center which reference the COVID-19 public health emergency.
