Project Description: This research has three aims:
- Create and validate a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-specific risk-stratification rule for fragility fractures.
- Incorporate the risk-stratification rule into a computerized decision support system for osteoporosis treatment.
- Pilot the decision support tool for initiating osteoporosis treatment.
Career Goals: Dr. Lafleur is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy in Salt Lake City. She received her PharmD from the University of Utah followed by a Fellowship in the Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center. At the same time, she earned her MS in Public Health. The grantee is interested in identifying and preventing drug-therapy failures in chronic disease populations. She is focusing on the clinical area of osteoporosis for systems interventions to prevent such failures.
Progress to Date: The grantee obtained institutional review board (IRB) approval for Aim #1. While awaiting VA-Medicare data, a draft survey has been tested to use for collecting risk data.
Future Plans: Dr. Lafleur will complete Aims #1a 1b.
