Project Description: There are two main aims to this research:

1. In a community-based population undergoing implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation for whom a single chamber device would be clinically reasonable, determine the proportion of patients who receive a dual chamber device and the patient and physician factors associated with this 'discretionary' dual chamber device use.
2. Compare the outcomes of patients receiving discretionary dual-chamber ICDs to a similar population of patients receiving single-chamber ICDs among all patients and in important subgroups.

Career Goals: Dr. Peterson is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Denver Health Medical Center and University of Colorado Denver. She is also the Director of the Denver Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and the Denver Health Healthy Hearts program. She received her MD from Tulane University and did her residency in Internal Medicine at Boston Medical Center followed by a Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Colorado, Denver where she also earned her MSPH. Dr. Peterson's long-term career goal is to improve outcomes for patients with heart failure through comparative effectiveness research.
