AHRQ’s 30th Anniversary Primary Care Research Conference: Proceedings
In December 2020, AHRQ held a Primary Care Research conference, which marked the 30th anniversary of the first primary care research conference convened in 1990 by the nascent Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research. The purpose of the 1990 conference was to set a primary care research agenda for the 1990s. Similarly, AHRQ’s 30th anniversary conference convened a diverse group of participants to provide guidance to AHRQ on a primary care research agenda for the 2020s.
The 2020 conference participants proposed nearly 40 important research questions and came to consensus on some of the highest priority questions for AHRQ. This consensus-building conference was intended to be only one component of the development of AHRQ’s primary care research agenda. Results will be combined with AHRQ’s historical and current priorities, the administration’s priorities, and additional sources of high-impact research areas and important research gaps identified by academic institutions, primary care advocacy organizations and think tanks, and other HHS agency partners to develop a forthcoming AHRQ primary care research agenda.
