Subcommittee of the National Advisory Council for the National Action Alliance to Advance Patient and Workforce Safety
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra hosted the HHS Convening to Advance Patient Safety in November 2022 as a voluntary learning community to advance patient and workforce safety. Following a Request for Information on Creating a National Healthcare System Action Alliance to Advance Patient Safety, issued through AHRQ on behalf of HHS, a Federal planning committee (including AHRQ, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Systems, and the Food and Drug Administration) analyzed the results and engaged healthcare executives and organizations. In March 2023, members of the National Advisory Council discussed and voted on creating a subcommittee to advise on structure, process, and topics for the National Action Alliance.
Overview
- The 16-member subcommittee met four times in fall 2023 to discuss the following topics:
- The post-pandemic level-setting.
- Federal partner safety programs and the patient’s voice.
- Advancing the AIM recommendations (Learning Network, workforce safety).
- Processing recommendations.
The SNAC developed a set of recommendations to inform the National Action Alliance to Advance Patient and Workforce Safety with four underpinning principles, four aims, and a research recommendation.
