Elizabeth A. Shenkman, Ph.D., is the chair of the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics and the co-director of the University of Florida Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Dr. Shenkman's research focuses on determining which combinations of healthcare delivery, community, and patient factors influence quality and outcomes of care, and developing and testing corresponding evidence-based strategies to reduce health disparities. At the University of Florida Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Dr. Shenkman leads the Learning Health System initiative, working with multiple stakeholders to align research and clinical operations to improve health outcomes and advance health equity. Dr. Shenkman leads the OneFlorida Clinical Research Network (funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute), which is comprised of 12 different health system partners caring for more than 15 million Floridians. OneFlorida has a centralized Data Trust containing linked healthcare claims, electronic health record vital statistics, and census data from its health system partners. She is the principal investigator of an Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality–funded study examining outcomes of care for individuals with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or both who received telehealth visits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
