Mason B. Emert, M.P.H.
Epidemiologist

Mason B. Emert, M.P.H., is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and currently serves as Choctaw Nation's tribal epidemiologist. He has worked to establish Choctaw Nation's first disease surveillance program and assists in developing the Nation's Public Health Department. He works to conduct research and identify healthcare disparities, chronic disease trends, and infectious disease risks within the Choctaw Nation healthcare system and across the entire Choctaw Nation Reservation, spanning over 11,000 square miles in rural Southeast Oklahoma. Mr. Emert serves as a member of the Nation's Data and Analytics Advisory Council, providing recommendations and guidance for the Nation's transition towards new electronic health record systems and digital clinical service integrations. He participates as a representative of the Choctaw Nation in the data modernization consortium between the Choctaw Nation and other members of the Five Civilized Tribes of Oklahoma. Mr. Emert previously worked in emergency response efforts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and was assigned to various states and counties, including Oklahoma City-County and the State of California.
Mr. Emert attended Oklahoma State University, earning undergraduate degrees in microbiology (cell and molecular biology) and nutritional sciences (human nutrition). Additionally, he earned a master's degree in public health, concentrating on rural and underserved populations, from Oklahoma State University. He currently attends Oklahoma State University Centers for Health Sciences. He is a member of the Oklahoma Public Health Association and the American Public Health Association.
