Michael L. Millenson, is president of Health Quality Advisors, LLC, and an internationally recognized expert on making healthcare better, safer, and more patient-centered. The author of the critically acclaimed book, Demanding Medical Excellence: Doctors and Accountability in the Information Age, he has testified before Congress and the Federal Trade Commission and co-authored policy papers for the Urban Institute, the National Partnership for Women & Families, and other groups. Mr. Millenson is a former board member of the Society for Participatory Medicine and currently serves on the boards of Project Patient Care and the Optimal Cancer Care Alliance. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine workgroup and member of Patients for Patient Safety.
Prior to starting his own firm, Mr. Millenson was a principal at a major human resources consulting firm and a healthcare reporter for the Chicago Tribune, where he was nominated three times for a Pulitzer Prize.
After leaving journalism, Mr. Millenson spent three decades as adjunct faculty at Northwestern University, researching digital health, patient-centered care by Accountable Care Organizations, and patient safety practices. National Public Radio called him “in the vanguard of the movement” to measure and improve medicine, and he has been quoted or had his work cited by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Consumer Reports, and Politico.
