New SOPS® Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set for Nursing Homes (Webcast)
Summary
This AHRQ webcast introduced the new Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set that can be added to the end of the Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS) Nursing Home Survey. The new item set assesses staff perceptions of workplace safety, including workplace hazards, inappropriate resident behavior toward staff, and work stress/burnout.
Speakers provided background on the importance of workplace safety in nursing homes, an overview of the supplemental item set, and results from a pilot test in 48 nursing homes. They also highlighted one healthcare organization' s experience.

About the Surveys on Patient Safety Culture
The Surveys on Patient Safety Culture are a suite of surveys that assess provider and staff opinions about patient safety culture in hospitals, outpatient medical offices, nursing homes, community pharmacies, and ambulatory surgery centers. The patient safety culture surveys program at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supports the development and promotion of patient safety culture surveys, resources, and databases, and provides technical assistance to users.
