AHRQ Post-Webcast Materials for “Improving Hospital Handoffs Using AHRQ’s Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® Hospital Survey” 

This webcast highlighted how Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Virginia used AHRQ’s Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS®) Hospital Survey to enhance their patient safety journey. Representatives described their strategies for administering the SOPS Survey and explained how SOPS Hospital results and SOPS resources are used to improve handoffs in medical-surgical units.

AHRQ's Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS®) Hospital Survey 2.0 and Hospital Workplace Safety Supplemental Items 2024 Reports 

Results from AHRQ’s 2024 Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS®) Hospital Survey 2.0 User Database Report and SOPS Hospital Workplace Safety Supplemental Items Report are now available. The Database Report includes 445 hospitals representing 284,036 healthcare providers and staff. The Workplace Safety Supplemental Items Report includes 94 hospitals representing 61,767 healthcare providers and staff.

AHRQ Post-Webcast Materials for “Enhancing Surgical Team Communication: SOPS® and TeamSTEPPS® in Action” 

This webcast provided background on AHRQ’s Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS®) Program, the TeamSTEPPS® 3.0 team training curriculum, and how the use of TeamSTEPPS improves SOPS scores. A representative from the University of North Carolina Division of Healthcare Engineering highlighted how concepts drawn from the SOPS Hospital Survey and TeamSTEPPS resources were applied to virtual reality training, and how these efforts improved patient safety culture and team communication in the hospital surgery department.

AHRQ Post-Webcast Materials for "Using AHRQ’s SOPS® Hospital Survey and Workplace Safety Item Set: Experiences From a State Hospital Association"

This webcast highlighted how the Indiana Hospital Association (IHA) used AHRQ's Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS®) Hospital Survey and Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set to assess patient safety culture and workplace safety in 41 Indiana hospitals. Speakers discussed their member organizations’ survey results, how SOPS resources were used, and their focus on initiatives to address workplace safety, including burnout. This webcast showcased recent research about the relationship between hospital workplace safety culture and patient safety culture, job satisfaction, and intent to leave.

Results from AHRQ's 2024 Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS®) Medical Office Diagnostic Safety Supplemental Item Set are now available. The report displays results from 102 medical offices with 760 providers and staff.

AHRQ's 2024 Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® Medical Office Database Report

Results from AHRQ's 2024 SOPS® Medical Office Survey User Database Report are now available. The report presents survey results from 1,164 medical offices and 15,449 respondents.

2024 Data Submission for the AHRQ Surveys on Patient Safety Culture® (SOPS®) Databases

AHRQ’s SOPS® Databases will open for voluntary data submission for the following surveys:

• Hospital Survey 2.0 on Patient Safety Culture: June 3–21
  • Hospitals can submit data from the:
    • SOPS Hospital Survey 2.0
    • Health IT Patient Safety Supplemental Item Set
    • Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set for Hospitals
    • Value and Efficiency Supplemental Item Set
• Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture: Oct. 1–21
  • Nursing homes can submit data from the:
    • SOPS Nursing Home Survey.
    • Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set for Nursing Homes.

Organizations that submit data will receive a feedback report displaying their results and comparisons with aggregated results from all database participants.

AHRQ SOPS® Hospital Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set Additional Results

A new appendix for AHRQ's 2022 SOPS® Hospital Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set provides composite measure and item scores by job satisfaction, intent to leave, tenure in unit/work area, and interaction with patients.
