About the Toolkit Development
Background
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) funded a 4-year project to reduce HAIs and other surgical complications in ambulatory surgery centers by applying the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program. This program, which was conducted in 665 ASCs across the country, was the first of its kind to focus on the national implementation of a quality improvement intervention within the ambulatory surgery center setting. This toolkit is based on the experiences of those who participated in the project.

The Safety Program for Ambulatory Surgery was funded and guided by AHRQ and conducted by Health Research & Educational Trust, which partnered with subject matter experts, providers, and ambulatory surgery center associations.
