- Monitor ventilator-associated events and outcome measures.
- Reduce ventilator-associated events (VAE).
- Make evidence-based determinations about the care of ventilated patients.

The Data Measures Guide provides data definitions and equations to help you use your collected data to determine your unit’s progress in reducing VAE rates, improving intervention compliance, and track objective outcomes such as mortality and duration of mechanical ventilation.
Tools To Support Monitoring VAEs and Outcome Measures
Ventilator-Associated Event Data Collection Tool (Word, 880 KB)
This data collection tool collects the incidences of VAEs, ventilator-associated conditions, infection-related ventilator-associated conditions, and possible ventilator-associated pneumonia on a monthly basis.
Objective Outcomes Data Collection Tool (Word, 1.58 MB)
This data collection tool tracks monthly outcome measures pertaining to mechanically ventilated patients (e.g., number of mechanically ventilated patients, mortality rates) per month.
Educational Slide Sets for VAE and Objective Outcome Measures
These slide sets can be viewed by individual users or presented to a group by a facilitator or leader.
