Long-Term Care Safety Toolkit Modules
Toolkit To Reduce CAUTI and Other HAIs in Long-Term Care Facilities
These modules (available in English and Spanish) describe how to apply the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) for long-term care resident safety. They support learning and implementation efforts to improve safety culture and practices in long-term care facilities. They provide concepts and tools that aim to change the way facilities do their work and provide care, allowing for better outcomes and higher quality of care for residents. These modules are the long-term care version of the core CUSP toolkit, which was originally developed for acute-care hospitals.
How To Use the Modules
- Your facility can use the modules to teach your team key principles that increase safety. If your facility is not familiar with the CUSP method, you may want to start with Module 1.
- The set of modules can be used to teach teams core safety principles. Also, specific modules may be used to address areas of safety culture that the facility identifies as needing improvement. One way to identify areas is to review the results from the AHRQ Nursing Home Survey on Patient Safety Culture.
- The table in these instructions can be used to identify which toolkit module corresponds to your identified areas.
- Use the Material Use Guide in each toolkit module for suggestions on how and with whom you can use the module materials.
